The Mix Defined
A mix occurs when two tracks with identical correct bar markers pass the bpm display on the 1 count of the each bar”.
The 1 count
The beat count of each is 1 2 3 4-1 2 3 4-the 1 count of each bar must be correct.
Bar Marker Drift
Occurs when the bar drifts in front of beat count 1. ”
Correcting The Grid
The grid is created when the down marker is placed on a beat (any beat) Serato will indicate the beat ai be one whether it is correct or not.

Beatgrid Fundamentals
These are the terms I use. Learn them once and your tracks start making sense.
Downbeat Marker
The downbeat marker is the anchor. In Serato, it sits on beat 1. There is only one downbeat marker per track. If this marker is off, every bar marker after it becomes suspect.
Beat Markers
Beat markers are the smaller beat lines that divide the track timing. They help you see whether the rhythm is staying locked as the song plays forward.
Bar Markers
Bar markers show the structure. Count 1-2-3-4 for one bar. The next bar starts at 2, then 3, then 4, and so on. Each bar marker must sit flush on the beat that starts that bar.
Beat Warp Marker
When the track starts right but drifts later, the Beat Warp Marker is used to pull the grid back into alignment without destroying the whole structure.
Transient
A transient is the visible attack point in the waveform. It is often where a kick, snare, clap, or strong beat starts. The marker should line up with the real musical hit, not just a random visual spike.
BPM
BPM is the tempo number. A track can show a BPM that looks close and still have a bad grid. The real test is whether the markers stay locked as the track plays.
Common Beatgrid Mistakes
Most DJs do not have a sync problem. They have a grid problem.
Starting On The Wrong Beat
The first strong sound is not always beat 1. Find the real musical one before placing the downbeat marker.
Trusting The BPM Too Fast
Do not accept the BPM just because it looks right. Play forward and check whether the bar markers drift.
Ignoring Drift
If the grid is right at the intro but wrong near the hook, fix the drift before you trust that track live.
Moving The Wrong Marker
Random marker moves can break the structure. Fix the downbeat first, then use Beat Warp Markers only where needed.
Mixing Two Bad Grids
If both tracks are off, your transition gets messy fast. One bad grid can make a good DJ sound sloppy.
Not Checking The Ending
A track can start clean and fall apart at the end. Always check the intro, middle, and outro before trusting it.
